How to have a more Organised Christmas and New Year

The lead-up to Christmas and New Year always feels like a whirlwind. Twinkling lights, endless lists, and the pressure of trying to do it all. As a mum of three and full-time content creator, I know firsthand how overwhelming this season can get if we don’t slow down and bring a little order to the chaos. Following my tips help me to have a more organised Christmas and New Year.

Over the past decade, I’ve learned that festive organisation isn’t about doing more, but about making small, intentional changes that free up time for what matters most: memory-making with the people you love.

Here are my favourite ways to live a more organised Christmas and New Year, and general life as we head into the busiest (and most magical) time of year.

Get ahead on festive planning

Christmas comes with a lot of to-dos that seem to pop up out of nowhere, but you can gain control with early prep. Start by setting aside a bit of time each week to tackle small bits of festive prep – whether that’s booking holiday travel or making a gift list.

The key is to chip away at these tasks rather than leave them until the last minute. If you plan well, you’ll find yourself less stressed in December and more able to enjoy time with family and friends.

Declutter your digital and physical spaces

The end of the year is the perfect time to clear out clutter, both digital and physical. Take an hour to sort through your email inbox, sort through your contacts, delete unwanted newsletters and delete all those apps you never use. A tidy inbox and homescreen are far less overwhelming when it’s time to look for holiday shopping deals.

In and around your home, consider tidying areas where you’ll be storing gifts and festive supplies. A clean, organised space can reduce stress but also make your home feel more inviting. You don’t need to do every room – focus on the places that are most likely to get overloaded, like your kitchen or hallway.

Think how you can go green this season

The holidays often come with a lot of waste, from wrapping paper to excess food. But you can make a difference this season by thinking about how you can cut back.

Consider using reusable gift bags, or get creative by wrapping gifts in fabric or newspaper. Instead of buying excess decorations, why not get some quality items you can use year after year?

Even small actions like composting food scraps or buying fewer single-use items can make a big impact. Make the effort and do your part for the planet this year.

Check in on your finances for the Best Organised Christmas and New Year

Christmas tends to be an expensive time of year, but it’s always tempting to put money worries to one side. Take some time to sit down and review your budget to help keep your finances in check. Keep track of gifts, travel, food, drinks and any other holiday-related expenses, and adjust as needed.

If you’re managing multiple lines of credit or debts from different lenders, it might be worth looking into options like debt consolidation loans this year. Combining debts into one payment could help ease some of the pressure of managing agreements with different parties. Any positive financial steps you can take now should help you avoid unpleasant surprises come January.

Do little tasks every day

One of the most effective ways to stay organised before and during the holidays is by doing small tasks daily. This might mean preparing some holiday cards in the evening, or cleaning out your fridge before it gets too full of leftovers.

Small actions always add up, and by the time Christmas arrives, you’ll feel more ready than ever. It’s all about building consistency. Just a few minutes each day can stop everything from piling up at once.

You won’t feel as guilty when planning Christmas activities with the children. Plus, you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment each time you check something off your list.

Before You Go

The holiday season should be filled with magic, not mayhem. By taking small steps now, you’ll create more space for calm, joy, and presence when Christmas finally arrives. Remember, these ideas are meant to inspire, not overwhelm. Choose the ones that feel right for you.

Here’s to a season of soft routines, cosy rituals, and memory-making moments with your loved ones. I hope this truly helps you to have a more organised Christmas and New Year.
